My issues with Libertarianism are probably colored by my personal experiences with Libertarians (or people who identified themselves as Libertarians, at least). In my experience, "Libertarian" is a code word, like "maverick." It's just a word that staunch conservatives adopt so that they can adopt an extreme right-wing agenda without being associated with any political party. Every person I've ever met who has called themselves "Libertarian" has been a gun-toting reactionary racist bastard. So every time I hear Libertarian buzzwords getting bandied about, I have an image of the kind of mind that produces them. And it ain't pretty.
That being said, I'm of the opinion that Libertarian philosophy is no longer relevant in modern society. It may have been relevant two centuries ago, back when there was a frontier and Thomas Jefferson's idea of a republic consisting entirely of gentlemen-farmers was still viable. Back when all you needed was a good harvest and a dependable firearm. That's not the world we live in anymore, and it simply doesn't make sense to behave as if it were. At best, it's erroneous. At worst, it's DANGEROUS; to force the world to conform to a delusion, to try and wind the clock backwards, is never a good idea.
...that's my two cents on the matter, at least.
Mod: Whoa, I'm not going to edit this, since it's a first offense, but let's keep the insults to a less nasty level.
