Inspired by a discussion on another forum in which the phrase "no one on Star Trek poops"...

Where's the strangest place you've ever seen/found/used a working toilet?

Now, I don't mean you're on a hike and there's a little shack with a toilet over a septic tank (this happened to me in Red Rocks once). I mean, just, a toilet. Hanging out. Doing toilet stuff.

For me... when I was a kid, my grandparents had... not a yacht, but a 40-or-50-foot "houseboat". We used to take it out off the Atlantic coast to go fishing on Saturdays. I only ever slept in it once. Mostly they just drove it from their house to the Boat Club and back. The boat was technically a 2/2, because it had not only a full bathroom (though small) with a toilet, shower, and sink, but also a toilet in the master bedroom.

Just a toilet. No sink, no nothing else. You lift up a seat cushion where you might normally sit while putting on your shoes and, underneath it... TOILET.

I don't think they ever used it, but I always wanted to. Just to try.

During my Continental Tour some 20 odd years ago, I was in a French dive bar that was about 30' x 40' in size.  The call of nature, um, called.  I was informed the facilities were just around the corner a few feet down an adjacent alleyway.

It was a shed, basically.  There was a bare overhead bulb and a small sink.  And a drain in the middle of the floor.

I'll also say, on a semi-related note, that the loos at the University of Glasgow apparently favor using waxed paper as TP.

The more you know.

Restaurant in the Mission District of San Francisco, don't remember the name, but you go out a little side door by the kitchen, into what is obviously an alley (but roofed over for some reason, despite the floor and walls being those of outside), go down the alley, and back into a little room in the side of the building with no other entrance to the building it is part of.  I guess they bought the alley, walled it off, and made it a sort of outdoor hallway, but it really creeped me out at the time for some reason.

Also, not a weird place for a toilet, more a weird place for geese, but I once stopped at a rest stop in Ohio where the bathroom was full of geese.  Like six or seven big Canadian geese wandering around looking aggressive like they do.  I got back in the car and kept driving.

At least you found a bathroom, even if it was geese-infested. I was on I-16 (probably the most boring highway in the US Southeast) and was running low on gas so I exited the highway to fuel up and take a station break... went five miles in both directions but found NOTHING. (Fortunately, five miles west on 16 there was another exit with a gas station.)

Speaking of gas stations -- if you're ever on I-75 in northern Florida and you have to use the bathroom, don't stop at the Micanopy exit. Yuck. Go to the next one.

Noted. I generally only use the turnpike though, so I should be fine.

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

Yesterday on my regular commute home I was exiting the highway when I noticed a port-a-potty sitting in the grassy area in between the highway and the exit ramp. There's no construction going on, and there were no other "items" anywhere near it. It was just chillin' out on the grass. :P
