Just wanted to let Norm (and Mur?) - and anyone else interested, of course - know that John Scalzi's Whatever blog has a post for writers/authors/editors to post about their nomination-eligible works, here.

Note that if Escape Pod is to be mentioned on this thread, Norm or Mur has to do it, because one of the explicitly-stated rules is:
Quote
This thread is only for authors/artists/editors to promote their own works (or in the case of editors, the works they have edited). This includes people eligible for “fan writer” and “fan author” categories. If you’re not an author/artist/editor promoting your own work, don’t post on the thread.

"People commonly use the word 'procrastination' to describe what they do on the Internet. It seems to me too mild to describe what's happening as merely not-doing-work. We don't call it procrastination when someone gets drunk instead of working." - Paul Graham

Thanks for the heads up, Wilson! I'm hoping the editors will act on it.

In addition to the EA editors, those forum members who happen to be authors and have stories in the running should take advantage of the opportunity as well.

Can someone also post the 2014 award-eligible stories here?  I nominate for Hugo, but it takes quite a bit of time to figure out the complete list of EP episodes that are eligible because reprints may have been reprinted from 2014 publications, etc.

Sure! Here's our list of originals from this year. I'll write it up for Scalzi too, in the next day or so:

"Kumara" by Seth Dickinson
http://escapepod.org/2014/03/29/ep441-kumara/

"An Understanding" by Holly Heisey

"To Waste" by Luke Pebler

"Rockwork" by R. M. Graves

"The Sky is Blue, and Bright, and Full of Stars" by Edward Ashton

"Trash" by Marie Vibbert

One more Escape Pod original:
"The Golden Glass" by Gary Kloster
http://escapepod.org/2014/01/17/ep431-golden-glass/

For nominating goodness, to add to Rachael's, here are reprint stories published in Escape Pod that originally appeared in 2014 and thus are eligible for 2014 awards.
Since they appeared elsewhere first, if you nominate them you wouldn't put Escape Pod on the ballot, you'd put the original publication.

"The Transdimensional Horsemaster Rabbis of Mpumalanga Province" (Asimov's) by Sarah Pinsker
http://escapepod.org/2014/11/29/ep470-transdimensional-horsemaster-rabbis-mpumalanga-province/

"A Struggle Between Rivals Ends Surprisingly" (F&SF) by Oliver Buckram
http://escapepod.org/2014/08/04/ep457/

"Repo" (Analog) by Aaron Gallagher
http://escapepod.org/2014/06/28/ep452-repo/

"Enjoy the Moment" (The End is Nigh) by Jack McDevitt
http://escapepod.org/2014/03/07/ep438-enjoy-moment/

"This is as I wish to Be Restored" (Analog) by Christie Yant
http://escapepod.org/2014/04/19/ep443-wish-restored/

(It took a while to put this together because although most episodes say concisely on the EP site whether they're previously published, I'd guess about half of them don't, and about a quarter of the ones that do don't mention the year of previous publication, so have to Google around.  Ideally one could tell at a glance from looking at the EP page entry whether it was a 2014 story or not)

Christie's story first appeared in Analog. "The Golden Glass" appeared... somewhere. I don't remember where. Those are errors on the main EP page, if that's where you got your info. But Christie's story did come out in 2014, so it's eligible anyway. :)

Christie's story says "This is an original work with no prior appearances."  That should be corrected

"The Golden Glass" does not specify whether it's been pubbed or not, so had to Google for that.  Didn't turn up any results other than EP, including on ISFDB.

Hmm, I'll check with the Powers That Be directly on "The Golden Glass". Since ISFDB is fan-run and in my experience, full of errors (of the sort that matter in situations like this), I took a conservative approach and only listed stories I could positively confirm were originals (with more information than the EP website listing). I don't want EP taking credit as publisher for stories we didn't publish, after all.

I don't have any control over the website, but I'll let someone who does know about the misattribution.

BTW, many thanks for your list too, and for the fact-checking. :)

ISFDB is a wiki-like substance, so if you notice an error or omission, you can make a correction. I've done a few over the past year.

All cat stories start with this statement: “My mother, who was the first cat, told me this...”

Yes, ISFDB is, like any Wiki, not a reliable primary source, but I was having trouble finding where The Golden Glass had appeared anywhere else either.  :P

Agreed on the reliability, but it's a great place to get started. I like that page a bunch, and it's pretty decent for baseline due diligence. Most of what I have been adding is a bunch of obscure data only tangentially related to EA stuff.

Ja, I'm certainly not trashing ISFDB at all. :) Just pointing out it's a less accurate source of information than, say, me just asking Norm and Mur directly, especially when accuracy matters (as in who gets attributed during award noms season).

Yes!  I agree wholeheartedly.  Having actual staff members with actual information put together the list would be far preferable to me fumbling around on the Internet.

The authors' original cover letters usually specify if something is a reprint.  That's what I go by, anyway, when compiling these lists comes up.

Hey Unblinking, we've confirmed "The Golden Glass" was an Escape Pod original. :) Glad we can add that one to the list! (Thanks, Scattercat!)
