Similar Podcasts: Old Time Radio Stories

I recently discovered Ecape Pod through a Periodic Table of the Internet (I noticed someone on your forums just linked to it as well) and was instantly enthralled by what I found, especially because I've been looking for something like it for several years.

But it's not quite the same as what I'm really looking for (as much as I enjoy it).  Does anyone remember those old radio shows: they were like television shows but crafted in such a way that you were prompted to imagine everything as the story unfolded?  I'm looking for something like that.

Does anyone know of a podcast (or archive) that reads those kinds of radio shows?

Just go to the podcast section of iTunes and search for vintage radio.  There are at least 20 podcasts of old radio shows.  I've heard X-1, The Shadow, Jack Benny, Burns and Allen, and the list goes on and on.

I'm sure my entry will be quickly followed by links to different archives.

24 pages of results, with some repeats. Comedies, variety, suspense, SF, horror, hard-boiled detective, soaps, big-band music, etc.

"Dimension X" is probably one of the better-known SF series, with stories adapted from works by very familiar authors - http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Dimension_X_Singles

For something a bit more corny, it's hard to beat "Planet Man" - http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Planet_Man - in the "Great jumpin' Asteroids!" vein with plucky kids, evil overlord burdened with incompetent minions, a folksy sidekick mechanic, an elderly professor, monotone-voiced robots, the usual. 1950-52-ish.
Make that title "The! Planet! Maaaan! ... Man ... Man ... Man ... Man"

There are a few collections of news stories which intrigues me, because back then it was breaking news and people had no clue how things would eventually turn out. A really decent archive that I used for a long time before I learned about podcasting is Zoot Radio. There is a huge collection of Golden age audio drama there. You do have to join their forum (a bit of a hassle) but it is a really fun resource.
