I recently discovered Ecape Pod through a Periodic Table of the Internet (I noticed someone on your forums just linked to it as well) and was instantly enthralled by what I found, especially because I've been looking for something like it for several years.

But it's not quite the same as what I'm really looking for (as much as I enjoy it).  Does anyone remember those old radio shows: they were like television shows but crafted in such a way that you were prompted to imagine everything as the story unfolded?  I'm looking for something like that.

Does anyone know of a podcast (or archive) that reads those kinds of radio shows?

Just go to the podcast section of iTunes and search for vintage radio.  There are at least 20 podcasts of old radio shows.  I've heard X-1, The Shadow, Jack Benny, Burns and Allen, and the list goes on and on.

I'm sure my entry will be quickly followed by links to different archives.

For old radio shows you can check out RadioLovers.com
If you're looking for some new content Decoder Ring Theater (http://decoderring.libsyn.com/) is the place to go.
It's home to Black Jack Justice, hard boiled detective, and The Red Panda, Canada's crime-fighting super-hero!

How do you fight a bully that can un-make history?

I'm sorry, but I saw this thread and I could only think of Adam West holding up a toilet-paper roll to his mouth and saying "Hey, does it sound like I'm on OLD TIME RADIO???"

Go to http://archive.org/ and search for "oldtimeradio" - http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3A%22oldtimeradio%22
24 pages of results, with some repeats. Comedies, variety, suspense, SF, horror, hard-boiled detective, soaps, big-band music, etc.
[later - Ah. Clicking through the alphabet nav bar on http://www.archive.org/details/oldtimeradio might be better, with no duplicates and sensible sort order. ]

"Dimension X" is probably one of the better-known SF series, with stories adapted from works by very familiar authors - http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Dimension_X_Singles
Also "X Minus 1" beginning on Page 1 (of 3) - http://www.archive.org/details/XMinus1_A

For something a bit more corny, it's hard to beat "Planet Man" - http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Planet_Man - in the "Great jumpin' Asteroids!" vein with plucky kids, evil overlord burdened with incompetent minions, a folksy sidekick mechanic, an elderly professor, monotone-voiced robots, the usual. 1950-52-ish.
Make that title "The! Planet! Maaaan! ... Man ... Man ... Man ... Man"

"2000 Plus" looks promising too, but I've only listened to the first episode. - http://www.archive.org/details/otr_2000Plus

There are a few collections of news stories which intrigues me, because back then it was breaking news and people had no clue how things would eventually turn out. Not "history" as we see it in hindsight. Check out http://www.archive.org/details/WWII_News_1944 and http://www.archive.org/details/WWII_News_1945 for D-Day, VE Day, and VJ Day items.

I feed The Pod.

A really decent archive that I used for a long time before I learned about podcasting is Zoot Radio. There is a huge collection of Golden age audio drama there. You do have to join their forum (a bit of a hassle) but it is a really fun resource.
