Hereadel, go get a sampler pack. There are lots of companies that put them out. Be warned, if you are drinking specialty beers, some of them have alcohol content 2x or more of the domestic swill that's out there. If there is a package store around that carries Boulevard, I'd recommend a sampler of it. Sam Adams is always a good choice, too.
Beer is not meant to be consumed ice cold, in a bottle or in a can! Get yourself a couple of pilsner glasses from Walmart or somewhere. When you pour a bear, there should be some head. To really get into a beer, you need to experience it. Hold the glass up to the light and check out it's color. Bring it close and sample the aroma before you drink it. Your first drink should not be a gulp. Have a drink and let the beer roll over your tongue. Give it a second after you've swallowed to appreciate the after taste.
Contrary to those dumb ass Keystone commercials, there is nothing wrong with bitter beer!
That ought to get you started down the path of being a beer snob!
Oh, and Happy Birthday!
