Guilty Pleasures

This is in response to Kibitzer's Overrated thread.

What do you enjoy that your peers think is ridiculous.  Note I said "peers" not "most people."  All of us enjoy things that most people think is stupid.  I'm talking about the stuff you don't even like to bring up in conversation, i.e. "I actually follow American Idol."

Me, I'll go on record as liking Seinfeld -- which, until the Overrated topic, I didn't realize was controversial.  I also like the Titanic movie.  I even like the song, though I haven't gone as far as purchasing it.  I like McDonald's and most other fast food, too. 


There.  That felt good.  Not as good as pounding a Big Mac while screaming "I'm king of the world" but good.

I totally own the Titanic soundtrack, which includes that song.

I am not ashamed. James Horner is a fantastic composer.

Godzilla.  I have most the old Godzilla movies, as well as the newer ones from the 90's and 2000's and several toy monsters. 

There's nothing really *good* about the Godzilla movies (except debatably the original) but I love to watch 'em, especially when I'm home sick and somewhat braindead.

Ah, I know it's really Not Good, but I love the movie Leonard Part 6 (yeah, the Bill-Cosby-as-a-secret-agent flick.) Qwellish!

- Second- and third-wave Surf, Spy, Spaghetti Western, Space, Eleki, and related Instro guitar genres, as long as there are no vocals.

- Some Scottish bagpipe music. Not "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes though, can't stand it. Ever since "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", it seems to be the only bagpipe music you hear at funerals any more, and there are dozens of better pipe tunes for that.

- I build and fly kites and kite-borne objects. (Maybe that doesn't count, because I talk about it all the time to my acquaintances and co-workers.)

- "Project Runway" and "Project Runway Canada".

- "Desperate Housewives" (The TV show, of course. What else could I mean?)

- I subscribe to Julia Nunes' youtube videos. She sings and plays the ukulele. Some cover tunes, and some originals, plus a bit of talking about what she's up to. What a sweetheart.

- One of my favourite comfort foods is Kraft Dinner (macaroni and cheese), with a can of tuna mixed in, and pickled beets on the side. My wife likes it once in a while too, so we get along just fine.

I must say that I absolutely love the Rolling Stones (at least in certain incarnations).

There, I said it.

I actually heard it quite often before that too, Do you have examples for us?

You had me til the pickled beets.  Keep that poisonous red cr@p off my plate.  BTW have you tried mixing in a can of peas as well?  I have also used the tuna in oil and skipped the butter/margarine step.  I also sometimes mix in a can of cream of... condensed soup, and using 1/2 cup of milk instead of the quarter cup called for.  I usually use mushroom but if I don't have any will use whatever I do have on hand.

Rolling Stones? Nuttin' wrong with them. Everything from The Rolling Stones No. 2 to Sticky Fingers was great. After that, I only like a few singles here and there, like Start Me Up, Tumbling Dice, and Angie.

For real embarrassment, try liking Monkeys/Boyce & Hart songs.

Well, as a song accompanied by autoharp and such, yes, many times before. It's fine, just too annoying on pipes now. It's like Hollywood doesn't know that there are more pipe tunes than Amazing Grace and Scotland the Brave.

Classical music is good for this also.

The only reality show I've watched is project runway- and my husband (against his usual tastes and those of "society") LOVES it.

I watch reality shows like Trading Spaces, or Mythbusters I want to actually learn something while being entertained.  at least with trading spaces, I can get ideas for DIY Decorating (or what not to do in the case of a few episodes).  Oh also Dirty Jobs but haven't watched any of them since I came to China.
