So, several good new shows. One Two-parter based of a Dr. Who novel from the nineties (that shows the Doctor holding — but not firing — a gun) and a horror piece that managed to not actually have any blood anywhere.

The Quantum Angels were absolutely brilliant, creepy as all hell.  And this:

'This is my timey-wimey box.  It goes bing when there's stuff.'

is surely in the running for greatest piece of techno babble ever written.

Well, the (Spoiler) Master's back. And played quite well by the two actors that play him in this (though having seen Life on Mars only recently, it's a bit hard always remember that it's the Master and not PC Tyler). According to the Doctor Who podcast commentary, Derek Jacobi (the old Professor) is the first Knight to appear on Doctor Who (actually, he's a double-knight, British and Danish) and was quite thrilled to be able to play the Master (whom he voiced in Scream of the Shalka).  I quite liked the explanation of why it is that Jack can't die for more that a few moments, and that unless someone does something about it he will continue on until the heat death of the universe (which seems mildly imminent).

It's nice to see Jack back in the Who rather than Torchwood. Don't get me wrong, I liked Torchwood, but there was an air of him biding his time until he could grab his backpack and run for the TARDIS (which he did, and at quite a terrific pace). Since the next Torchwood season's in 2008, perhaps the next two seasons will wrap up his storyline with the Doctor (at least for a while).

The last couple of episodes have been frighteningly good, so much so that I'm almost scared to watch any more episodes, in case there is any dip in quality.

'Blink' was terrifying, I'm genuinely amazed that they managed to get that made for what is supposed to be an 'all ages' slot and suspect that it was only because they've had two and a half years of great shows. It's typical of the BBC to say to the production team "The good news is we're giving you an extra show to the series, the bad news is that you won't have any extra time to make it so you can't have the Doctor or his companion appear in it that much".

And yes, Captain Jack is back, and back as the bisexual devil-may-care rogue he was in 'The Parting of the Ways', not the grumpy get of Torchwood. Frankly I hope he never gets kicked out of the TARDIS again...

Blink was awesome.
Utopia... not so much.

While it's euhm great, I think, to have the Master back. I'll have to wait and see what this Saturday brings.
BTW couldn't the doctor summon the TARDIS back with his key, like he did when Rose screwed up Time and Space, when she saved her dad? :)

And in comes the titanic.

The Master was amazing, though it would have been nice if they hadn't hit the magical reset button.

Thoughts?

P.S. The iPhone keyboard really isn't that bad(don't have one, just an apple store nearby). This was typed on one. Also why its so short.

Yeah no reset button would have been nice but it would have been difficult for them to do happy go lucky stories in a world where, if I remember correctly, the entire population of Japan have been slaughtered and most of Russia is a rocket farm.
That being said, I was actually pretty impressed.  Whilst I could have done without 'Dobby the House Doctor' the palpable sense of doom to most of it was really striking and I find it interesting that the year of horror had very personal consequences for a small number of people.  Martha's family are clearly horrificially traumatised by what they saw and I strongly suspect we'll get an episode, of TORCHWOOD I suspect, dealing with UNIT personnel who were on the Valiant and can't live with what they remember/what they did.

Plus, given my severe lack of fondness for Martha (Nothing against the actress, she was just never written remotely consistently as a character) top marks for giving her an utterly fitting and strangely rather cheerful exit.  Be interesting to see how they come back to her as she's been confirmed I believe as appearing in both the back end of season 4 and three episodes of TORCHWOOD.

Great season ender to top off the best DW season yet.

But I am surprised that no one has yet to mention (at least on this thread) the whole 'Face of Bo(sp)' thing with Jack.  It brings up a lot of questions.  How can a constant die?  If he [it]is[/it] the Face of Bo then how does he get himself quasi back to normal?

Early reports of Torchwood Year Two suggest, very strongly, that this is something that's going to be explored.  According to Barrowman himself, if the source is to be believed:

-We get a big reveal about Jack's past, up to and including exactly where/when he was born.

-The knowledge of him living for a very, very long time turns his approach to Torchwood on it's head.  So no more mopey emo Jack!  Yay!

The general impression I got from the piece is that the Face of Boe/Jack reveal is the start of something character driven as opposed to a generic gag/reveal as it was initially presented.  Regardless, anything which gets Jack Harkness to show up in Torchwood and not Captain Grumpypants gets a definite thumbs up from me.

I agree, though without the reset, they couldn't have brought so much destruction to Earth. John Simm was utterly fantastic as The Master. And I have no idea what grits are, either.

Looks like the U.S is getting "Human Nature" on the Sco-fi channel tonight. Now that could be the best of the season (with the possible exception of the finale). It shows an entirely different side to the Doctor's character, the villans are incredibly creepy and David Tennant's acting is fantastic (especially in the follow-up episode).

The 21st Century is when it all changes, and you’ve gotta be ready- Captain Jack, Torchwood.
