Everyone else's point - not really weird.
I have three chickens myself. Granted, I don't care to read about them, I just think their eggs are tasty. But I can see how someone would find the different breeds, keeping methods, etc, etc well worth reading and posting about. It's practical too, unlike talking about SF stories.
I don't think keeping chickens is weird. I'm not interested in doing the work for it, but if the kid next door wanted to do it, I'd finance it in exchange for eggs. Given what I pay for non-industrial eggs, I'd get my money back in 8-10 months.
I also understand that people would talk about the best birds for their area and needs (eggs or meat or pet). They would also want to ask questions about building and setting up the house. This all makes sense.
Look at the forums. There's a couple small sections dealing with these questions. The rest of the place is about making them outfits and if their chicken needs prozac.
There is a tradition of literary groups. People getting together to talk about books or stories or authors. How many of us have heard about monthly groups to talk about the best way to make a tuxedo for your chicken.
If this doesn't strike you as a weird forum, show me ones that are weirder.
